I’m proud to say The Sycamore Tree is in Tripadvisor’s Top 10 Percent Worldwide for 2026

I’ve had some special moments as landlord and owner of The Sycamore Tree in Colwinston, but this one really has stopped me in my tracks.

I am excited to share that The Sycamore Tree has been recognized by Tripadvisor as being among the top 10% of restaurants worldwide for 2026. This marks our achievement for the third consecutive year, and we are incredibly grateful for the continued support from our valued customers.

For a small, family-run pub and restaurant, that means more than I can properly put into words. We are not a big chain. We do not have a huge machine behind us. We are a local place, built on good food, great company and a warm welcome. So to receive this kind of recognition from Tripadvisor is something I will never take for granted.

This award belongs to everyone who walks through our door

When the news came through, my first thought was not just about the award itself. It was about the people behind it.

It made me think of the regulars who pop in week after week. The families who choose us for birthdays, Sunday lunches and quiet meals together. The couples who book a table for a proper catch-up. The walkers, locals, visitors and food lovers who find their way to Colwinston and give us a chance.

Every meal matters to us. Every visit matters. Every kind word, recommendation and review has helped us get here.

Tripadvisor recognition is based on the experiences people share, which makes this feel especially personal. It comes from guests taking the time to leave lovely feedback after a visit. That is a generous thing to do, and I’m genuinely grateful for it.

A proud moment for a family-run pub

Running a pub and restaurant is not always glamorous. Anyone in hospitality will tell you that. There are early mornings, late nights, busy services, quiet worries and plenty of hard graft behind the scenes.

But there are also moments that make it all worthwhile.

Seeing people enjoy their food. Hearing laughter from a table. Watching someone walk in as a first-time visitor and leave saying they will be back. Those are the moments that keep us going.

Being an Award winning pub is a lovely thing to say, but the real reward is knowing that people feel at home here.

The Sycamore Tree has always been about more than just putting plates on tables. Of course, food matters deeply to us. We want every dish to be cooked with care and served with pride. But hospitality is also about the feeling people have when they arrive, when they sit down and when they leave.

If people leave full, happy and well looked after, then we have done our job.

I’m proud of the people who work here. I’m proud of the standards they hold themselves to. I’m proud of the way they look after our customers and look after each other.
